The Meaning of Carnelian

Carnelian is a semi-precious gemstone found in Peru, Sri Lanka, Thailand and the USA. It is sometimes known as cornelian or sard and ranges in colour from red to deep brown. Bright orange carnelian gemstones are the most highly prized.

Carnelian is July’s birthstone, a modern alternative to ruby. Carnelian has been used in jewellery making since neolithic times. Known as the “sunset stone” because of its vibrant orange hues, it symbolises passion and was also prized in ancient times as an aphrodisiac. The gemstone measures 13 mm x 10 mm. The bangle comes in different sizes and has a width of 3 mm.
